What to expect in a class with Meg

I have practiced in several different styles of yoga under the Hatha Path (Vinyasa, Iyengar, Restorative, Gentle, Yin, etc.), and like to incorporate them all into my teaching, thus my classes are generally a fusion of styles. I like to teach a powerful, slow flow in which students can take time to first find their alignment, then feel the power of the pose before moving on to the next posture, all the while staying connected to their breath. I always like to incorporate ab work, too! I also like to make my classes as much of a Work In as a Work Out by encouraging my students to cultivate an inner awareness and practice self-reflection during their practice. At the same time, I like to bring a bit of levity to my classes: laughter is good for the soul (most often, I’m laughing at my own mistakes!). Recently, I trained in Thai Yoga and love to give hands-on assists when the class style allows. I especially enjoy giving Thai Yoga massage adjustments during my restorative classes.

About Meg

I grew up in New Jersey, but have lived in New Hampshire for 20 years now. My entire family had already transplanted up here, and I moved up “for the summer” in 1996, met my husband, Mike, and never left. We live in a quiet log cabin just down the road from a lake, where I spend much of my time on my paddleboard. Our five rescue pets keep the house from getting too quiet!

I completed my 200-hour certification in Hatha Yoga from Angie Follansbee-Hall’s highly comprehensive Myriad Yoga Teacher’s Training program, and graduated in August of 2014. It was a year-long training program with one intensive weekend per month, and I found the experience to be incredibly transformative. I can truly say that it was the best year of my life! In 2015, I completed my training in Thai Yoga with the amazing and inspirational Karen Kenney, and with the incredible Shai Plonski, founder of the Still Light Centre (Toronto, Canada).

We asked Meg

Why do you practice yoga?

I initially began practicing yoga in 2006, looking for, like many others, "the stretch" as well as hoping it would ease my lower back pain. I quickly found that yoga had many more benefits to offer, especially helping to alleviate stress! Not only does yoga keep the back and hip pain I suffer from scoliosis in check, but my practice keeps me grounded in the present moment, which allows me to keep depression and anxiety at bay. I truly don’t know where I’d be today without yoga. 

What fuels you?

Coffee (good, strong coffee)! Spending time outside – whether it be teaching outdoor yoga classes in my community; SUP yoga; hiking/swimming/playing with my dogs; or simply relaxing on my deck. Books! Yes, reading in general fuels me, and I have a Kindle for light reading (fiction). But I still love physical books. I love being able to hi-light, scribble notes, and flag pages in all of my yoga texts. I am fueled by good food and wine, especially when shared with friends. I am lucky to have a husband who is an amazing cook!  Quality downtime spent with him and our “furkids” fuels me – they are all great snugglers. I am fueled by unbridled laughter, and fully subscribe to the belief that you need to be able to laugh at yourself. I also subscribe to the belief that all mistakes are learning opportunities, and I am fueled by learning. I never want to stop learning, growing, evolving, becoming the best “me” that I possibly can!
