Mighty Yogi of the Month: October 2016

Name: Anda Panaitiu

Occupation: Chemistry Graduate Student

Favorite yoga pose: Half pigeon and all arm balances (my friends and I also joke about perfecting a novel pose: "roadkill," which is when we loudly crash-land out of a challenging pose flat on our faces).

Yoga is... what I never knew was missing from my life.

What do you love most about yoga? The sense of community and that it makes people genuinely happier and kinder.

What fuels you?
Science - understanding the inner workings of the universe around us through the lens of science is profoundly beautiful. Also, laughter - being able to share humor and good laughs with others is the best!

My NON-guilty pleasure is... potato chips - I have no self restraint when it comes to them.

What makes you Mighty?
All the amazing people in my life who constantly inspire me to be a better person and the best version of myself.

What’s your yoga story?  How did you start practicing?
One of my closest friends talked me into joining her for the 30 for $30 deal at Mighty. I wasn't a fan at first (or the second time, or the third...) But I stuck with it and after a couple of weeks I was hooked. Fast forward a few months and now I can no longer imagine not having yoga as an integral part of my daily life. What I look forward to the most every day is heading over to Mighty Yoga. Practicing yoga hasn't just strengthened my body, it's also changed my perspective and morale. It allows me to stay happy and positive through challenges both on and especially off the mat.

What's the best advice you've ever received?
Always try to put yourself in other people's shoes. Empathy frees us of prejudice and judgement, and allows us to recognize the same humanity in others as in ourselves.
