How did you get introduced to Barre?
I had been doing yoga at the Hanover studio for a while, and I heard about Barre there and decided to try it. Once I had come to a class, I was hooked.
What do you like about Barre?
I love how inclusive Barre is. No matter what is going on with your body, everyone is able to participate and get a great workout!
How has your practice changed since the first time you tried Barre?
Some of the most important things in Barre are keeping a neutral spine and making small, controlled movements, and I used to be terrible at both those things! I also had very weak shoulders and arms when I began, and I had a lot of trouble holding plank and downward dog for any amount of time. I’ve definitely developed better body control and gotten stronger, but I still have to remind myself not to arch my back when I’m taking a class!
Why did you decide to teach?
I have taught figure skating for years, and have always loved teaching and sharing things I love. Once I got hooked on Barre, I wanted to help other people have a great experience with it too.
Any tips for someone new to Barre?
Focus on your own practice, not what the people around you are doing. Don’t worry if you can’t do something or hold a pose for the whole time, just keep trying, and you’ll be amazed at how much your practice develops!
What is your favorite pose or poses? Why?
One of my favorite pose is chair pose because it makes me feel strong and powerful when I’m in it. I also love downward dog, because I used to struggle with it, and now it reminds me how much stronger I have gotten.
What do you like to do outside of class?
Outside of class, I spend a lot of time teaching figure skating and practicing as an EMT. In my free time, I love playing with my bunnies, Luna and George, visiting my family, hiking, and trying as many new things as possible.
What fuels you?
Family, friends, and a lot of Thai food keep me going!
What makes you Mighty?
I always try to approach new people and things with an open mind, and am very quick to find humor in any situation. I like to think it makes me Mighty!
