Meet Katie S, Our New Barre Teacher!

How did you get introduced to Barre?
I started coming to Barre with my friend and colleague Marie-Anne, and I was instantly hooked.

What do you like about Barre?
When I am practicing regularly, I am stronger, happier and feel more connected to others.

How has your practice changed since the first time you tried Barre?
I’ve learned that it’s your state of mind that powers you through class, not muscles and bones. The more fun I’m having, the stronger I feel. You will often see me dancing through tough poses.

Why did you decide to teach Barre?
I love how Barre makes me feel. I want to give that back to others. Also, I love messing around with playlists and poses.

Any tips for someone new to Barre?
The most important thing to know about Barre is that no one is looking at you to see what you are doing or how you are doing it. They are focused on their own practice. It’s all about you. Embrace the meld between your body and mind. And don’t have expectations of yourself. Just have fun.

What is your favorite pose or poses? Why?
I love chair pose at the barre. It always reminds me that I can get much stronger. But also that with the right attitude, I am stronger than I think!

What do you like to do outside of class?
I like to play around outside. I paint (badly) and do lots of little projects. I like decorating my home and cultivating plants.

What fuels you?
Friends, family, coffee, terrible television and my very best friend, the Gray Lady.

What makes you Mighty?
Relentlessness.
