How did you get introduced to Yoga?
In 2000, I went to my first yoga class with friends in Peru, Vermont. The studio was on the 2nd floor of a garage with large windows so we could watch the snow fall as we practiced. I was hooked.
What do you like about Power Vinyasa Flow?
I like that it opens up the mind while strengthening the body. I typically leave a Power Vinyasa flow class feeling amazed and grateful at what my body just accomplished.
How has your Yoga changed since the first time you practiced?
My yoga practice is so much more about the emotional benefits. When I first started yoga, I wanted toned arms and legs. Now I want to calm the nervous system, listen to my breath, and be aware of my thoughts without attaching myself to them.
Why did you decide to teach Yoga?
I truly felt like I was called to it. Some of the best moments in my life are those in which I followed an inner voice that said, “Do this” without exactly knowing why at the time. I now know that teaching yoga to others is my way of giving back.
Any tips for someone new to Yoga?
Keep coming back, and invite yourself to embrace the challenge. Let go of expectations and you will be amazed at what you discover.
What is your favorite pose or poses? Why?
Tree pose has always been a longtime favorite of mine because of its connection to nature.
What do you like to do off the yoga mat?
Hike, read, write.
What fuels you?
Nature, teaching, art.
What makes you Mighty?
Years ago, a life coach friend of mine asked me to make a list of “50 Things that Make Me Lovable.” At the time, I told her I couldn’t possibly think of that many. Through yoga, I’ve been able to uncover the countless reasons I’m lovable…and mighty: my grace, my empathy, and my courage (just to name a few!)
