Mighty Yogi of the Month: October 2016

HI, I'M PAT AND THIS IS HOW I KICK ASANA!

Name: Pat Sewell

Favorite yoga pose:
If things are working right, bound side angle. Great for my back; stretches muscles I didn't know I had.

Yoga is. . . really, really, hard work.

How do you serve the world?
Lately, I have been doing work for the Northern Light Learning Center,  a homeschooling cooperative where my kid likes to spend his time. When not there, I teach Environmental Studies and Food Systems courses at Tompkins Cortland Community College; and I occasionally pick up the odd shift for GreenStar at Dewitt.

What do you love most about your yoga practice?
Keeps me in shape (literally).

What fuels you?
Coffee and Kava. Occasionally almond butter.

My NON-guilty pleasure is… reading and NPR. Sometimes together.

What makes you Mighty?
Getting out of bed in the morning. Seriously.

What’s your yoga story?  How did you start practicing?
Five years ago I slipped on the stairs landing on my back and neck. After a few months of serious back pain, I tried yoga. Downward dog is the only thing that keeps me functioning. And now I can touch my toes.

If you had a superpower what would it be and why?
Typing more than 6 words a minute so it didn't take an hour and a half to answer simple questions from my yoga studio.
