Heather Healey

I started taking yoga classes because I loved movement and exercise (and still do!), but had trouble motivating myself to get to the gym or go for a run (and still do!). What I LOVED about the classes is that I could show up, be led through poses/movements, get my heart rate up and sweat - and I felt AMAZING afterwards. Like I accomplished something, but I also felt free – less stress (I was in grad school), and my body felt better.

These days my practice is still about moving in my body, but it’s also so much more. With my busy life (2 yoga studios, a consulting job, 3 kids), it provides precious time for me to connect with my breath, with my body, and with my heart.

I’ve always loved teaching – I taught my younger sister how to read as I was learning in kindergarten! I searched for “what” to teach all the way through a PhD in engineering, and then realized that academics wasn’t what I was looking for. What I thought was a whim to sign up for a yoga teacher training and open a yoga studio, I realize was actually my intuition finally getting loud enough for me to hear. So here I am, fourteen years and 2 yoga studios later – loving what I do!

I have a passion for guiding students to reconnect through the movements in a yoga class. By adding the connection of breath and movement as well as specific intentions during our practice, we can tap into the unlimited potential in all of us. What is your heart trying to tell you?

Heather’s favorite piece of wisdom:

“Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it. Because what the world needs are people who have come alive.” – Howard Thurman
